Not every site justifies an officer standing on it all night. Most don't. But almost every site benefits from a marked vehicle turning up at an hour nobody can predict, walking the perimeter with a torch, and leaving a record that it happened.

What a patrol includes

Randomised timing. This is the whole trick. A patrol that arrives at 2am every night is a patrol that anyone watching can work around. Ours vary, deliberately.
